The Timeless Beauty of Adaline

“A young woman, born at the turn of the 20th century, is rendered ageless after an accident. After many solitary years, she meets a man who complicates the eternal life she has settled into.” (Source: IMDb)

Narrator: On December 31, 2014, a taxicab traveled through San Francisco, from Chinatown to Marin. The car carried a single passenger: a woman, her birth name Adaline Bowman, current alias Jennifer Larson. This is the first and last chapter of her story. (Source: IMDb)

I recently watched The Age of Adaline, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Forrest Gump, this movie follows the life of Adaline Bowman and spans several decades.

Not only is The Age of Adaline a story about the agelessness of Adaline Bowman and her fear of letting go, but it’s a story about the love between a mother and her daughter. Adaline (Blake Lively) and the relationship with her daughter, Flemming (Ellen Burstyn), is heartwarming and their moments on-screen were tender.

Aside from the mother-daughter storyline is the love story between Adaline and William Jones (Harrison Ford), and the love story between Adaline and Ellis (Michiel Huisman). There is a twist to these two love stories, which I won’t spoil for any of you who haven’t see this movie.

“The film is about love, why it’s valuable to age and why it’s essential to die. Without that, life loses its meaning.”

Blake Lively was a wonderful choice to play Adaline. She has a timeless beauty that made the agelessness of this character believable.  The narrator of the movie stated that “as the years passed, Adaline credited her unchanging appearance to a combination of a healthy diet, exercise, heredity, and good luck.” (Source: IMDb)

Blake Lively has come a long way since her Serena van der Woodsen days on Gossip Girl. The costumes span decades and highlight Blake Lively’s slender frame. Check out Corinna B’s World for more details on the costumes in this movie.

If you haven’t seen this movie, then make it a movie you watch for Valentine’s Day. It’s a beautiful love story that will leave a smile on your face and love in your heart.

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
