James Garner passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014. He was best known for his roles as Jim Rockford inThe Rockford Files and Bret Maverick in Maverick.

Garner has been in several great movies, including Support Your Local Sheriff, Space Cowboys, The Notebook, and Maverick.

Garner’s good looks and charming characters warmed the hearts of many. His later roles were marked by his playing grandfathers. After John Ritter suddenly passed away, he joined the cast of 8 Simple Rules as Grandpa Jim Egan.
Another one of my favorite Jim Garner movies was Space Cowboys, which also starred Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones, and Donald Sutherland.

Garner and his wife, Lois, were happily married for 56 years. They have one daughter, Greta “Gigi” Garner.

He was drafted in 1950 and fought in the Korean War, where he was wounded twice and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He made 21 films in 10 years (1961-1971). Also, he was given the Life Achievement Award in 2005 from the Screen Actors Guild. (source: latimes.com)
