What I'm Currently Reading…

I’m not an actress or a model who needs to (or has to) work out 2-4 hours a day, 5-6 times a week, to keep my body svelte or slim. I’m a real woman, with curves, a small muffin top, and cellulite.

Earlier this summer, when I was off for a couple of weeks recovering from my total hysterectomy, I saw an interview with Cameron Diaz on The Queen Latifa Show. Although she was there to promote her book – The Body Book, her message was simple… “love your amazing body.”

I thought that by purchasing this book that I would find out her secret to getting her amazing body. Instead, I’m learning to love my “amazing body” with my curves, my muffin top, and my cellulite. I follow both Cameron Diaz and The Body Book on Instagram, and I enjoy reading other people’s comments about how the book helped them to change their views on nutrition, fitness, and the mind.

I’m roughly the same age as Cameron Diaz. But do I look like Cameron does in the picture above? No… not just no, but heck, no!!

Remember that scene in the movie The Sweetest Thing when she and Christina Applegate’s character are in the dressing rooms? If not, then here is a quick rundown… Cameron is dressed in a bikini top, and she is staring at herself in the dressing room mirror. She raises her arms and says “18”, then lowers her arms and says “28”. Then she raises and lowers her arms several more times, saying “18… 28… 18… 28.”
Well, that’s how I’m feeling except instead of saying “18.. 28…”, I’m saying “18… 43… 18… 43…” and I’m not necessarily liking what I’m seeing.

My point is this… Everyone has “body issues,” but do we really know our bodies that well? Do we know what’s really good for our bodies, what we should and shouldn’t be feeding it, or how we should be treating it? Well, that’s where Cameron Diaz’s book, The Body Book, comes in handy. I’m still reading this book, but so far, I like what I’m discovering in her book. It is both informative and positive, meaning that there is a lot of biological and scientific information, as well as a good positive message for women everywhere, of every shape and form and nationality… to “love your amazing body!”
