How to Use Oils in Your Beauty Routine

I’ve been using coconut oil, argon oil, and grapeseed oil in my beauty routine for years, but these oils have been used in beauty routines for centuries.

My husband just recently joined Pinterest and one of the first things he discovered on Pinterest was how oils could help moisturize his itchy beard. He had me run to the store and to Sally’s Beauty Supply to pick up a combination of grapeseed, jojoba, and almond oils. I already had coconut oil (because I cook with it) and Josie Maran’s argon oil (which I picked up on sale from QVC).

You can mix these carrier oils with essential oils and make lotion bars, lip balms, sugar scrubs, hair masks, and more! I actually feel like I get a closer shave if I use an oil (like grapeseed oil, or Neutrogena’s sesame oil). To make lotion bars, you’ll use shea butter and/or beeswax, and let them sit in silicone molds until hard.

Some essential oils may be hard to find, unless you know someone who sells essential oils (like doTerra or Young Living), or if your local health store carries or can order specific essential oils.

I use grapeseed oil and/or coconut oil to make my brown sugar coffee scrub. It’s such an refreshing pick-me-up in the morning, and it leaves my skin so silky soft! In a bowl, mix 1/2 cup of ground coffee and 1/2 cup brown sugar (or regular white sugar will do as well). Then slowly mix in your oil(s) until you’ve got a nice consistency. You don’t want it too oily, otherwise, you’ll have a lot of good oil being washed down the drain.

NOTE: Be careful when using coconut oil, because it can solidify. It melts when warmed up, but if it solidifies when cold. If it goes down your drains, then you may end up with clogged pipes and that’s no good. If you read any articles on oil-pulling with coconut oil, the recommendation is that you spit the oil into the garbage can instead of down the drain.

Do you use oils and/or essential oils in your beauty routine? If not, give it a try today!

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
