Celebrating Girl Bosses on Boss's Day

Today is Boss’s Day and I celebrated it by making pancakes for the office in honor of our Practice Manager, Toni. And yesterday, I made a special batch of my office-famous sausage balls for my other “boss”, Dr. G.

Never before had I celebrated it, but all the talk of pancakes amonst us ladies in the office earlier this week, coupled with the office holiday of Boss’s Day… well, it just seemed fitting to celebrate Boss’s Day with a pancake breakfast.

So it got me thinking… who are some other pretty awesome big and small screen “bosses”? Not male bosses, but female bosses. The first one that came to mind would be Miranda Priestly. You know her, right? She was the “bitchy-boss-who-looks-down-her-nose-at-the-new-girl” editor-in-chief of “Runway” magazine in The Devil Wears Prada.

Other big screen bosses include Anne Hathaway as Jules in The Intern; Gabrielle Union as Evangeline Dandridge in Deliver Us From Eva; and Judi Dench as James Bond’s boss “M” in Golden Eye. Then there is the sexy Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall, in Sex and the City. She knew her way around the office as well as the bedroom.

And watch out for Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope on Scandal. Then there are funny girl bosses like Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, on Parks & Recreation, Liz Lemon, played by Tina Fey, on 30 Rock, and Mindy Lahiri, played by Mindy Kaling, on The Mindy Project.

Then there are real-life “girl bosses”… Julia Hartz of Eventbrite, Julie Carlson of Remodelista, Jess Levin of Carats & Cakes, Katherine Power of Clique, Sophia Amoruso of Nasty Gal, and Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue. Even Mindy Kaling and Tina Fey are top girl bosses!
