“Hit & Run” is a Fun Ride

I’m not the kind of girl who is into car chase movies, but Dax Shepard’s Hit & Run was an exception.

Dax wrote, directed, and starred in this “car chase”/”road trip” action romantic comedy. And I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this movie as much as I did, and even my husband thought it was a good movie. Of course, he also liked the car that Dax drove, because like Dax, my husband is a “car guy.”

Here is a brief description of the movie: “Former getaway driver Charlie Bronson (Dax Shepard)  jeopardizes his Witness Protection Plan identity in order to help his girlfriend get to Los Angeles. The feds and Charlie’s former gang chase them on the road.” (Credit: IMDb)

This movie also stars his real-life fiance and soon-to-be “baby mama”, Kristen Bell, as his on-screen girlfriend, Annie Bean.

Tom Arnold stars as the U.S. Marshall with Witness Protection assigned to protect Yul Perrkins, a.k.a. Charles Bronson (Dax Shepard). Bradley Cooper, Ryan Hansen, and Joy Bryant star as his former gang members.

If you’re ears are sensitive to foul language, then this movie is not for you… just sayin’…

Here are a few interesting “car-related” facts:

1. Both the hot rod Lincoln Continental and the off-road race car belong to Dax Shepard in real life.

2. Also, since the movie was an independent production with no studio supervision, Dax also did his own stunt driving.

3. Most of the cars seen in this film are from Dax Shepard’s personal collection.

Yul Perrkins a.k.a. Charles Bronson: Close your eyes and take three deep breaths… This is the only moment you need to be worried about. There’s no yesterday. There’s no tomorrow. There’s just right now. You’re not late for anything. You aren’t going to miss anything. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. And you’re exactly who you’re supposed to be. You’re absolutely perfect. And whatever happens today is exactly what’s supposed to happen. And if you want, I’ll spend every moment with you for the rest of your life. (from IMDb)

Annie Bean: [about his car] It sounds like it’s gonna break.
Yul Perrkins a.k.a. Charles Bronson: No, it does not sound like it’s gonna break. It sounds like is has 700 horsepower. All right? You’re being a girl. Believe me, all dudes love how this car sounds.
Annie Bean: Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! I’m in a 700 horsepower dude lure?
Yul Perrkins a.k.a. Charles Bronson: That’s right.
Annie Bean: Apologies. I had no idea.

Dax wrote a pretty good screenplay, and he wrote some insightful dialogue on relationships and life… you gotta see the movie to know exactly what I’m talking about, but it’s there.

It’s not a true romantic comedy, but more of an action comedy with a little bit of romance in there for the women who saw (or will see) the movie with their husbands, boyfriends or significant others.

I rented this movie because my husband said he would like to see it, but all in all, I thought it was a good movie… better than I thought it would be, which makes, in my opinion, Hit & Run a fun ride!

Have you seen Hit & Run? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this movie.

Have a great day!
