Woman of Style: Emily Blunt

English film and stage actress Emily Blunt may best be known for her break-out role as the snarky co-assistant to Miranda Priestley in The Devil Wears Prada. She has made her mark on Hollywood by bringing a bit of her English sense of style to the Red Carpet. She embraces her sense of style, making her this month’s “Woman of Style.”

I am obsessed with Emily Blunt, ever since her role in The Devil Wears Prada. She was great in that role! I have also enjoyed seeing her in more serious roles, like Tom Cruise’s alien-fighting comrade in Edge of Tomorrow and the idealistic FBI agent in Sicario.

Blunt leans toward more structured silhouettes. “For the red carpet, I like formfitting clothes,” she says. “I’m not so good with the sort of ethereal, girlie, whimsical things. I tend to go for dresses that have bold cuts and strong colors.”

When interviewed for InStyle, Emily said of her style evolution: “I’ve become a bit more bold with color and print. I was a bit more tentative when I first started out. Now, I love to embrace the spectacle of it, because it is an alien thing and an otherworldly thing to be photographed like that on the red carpet and have people screaming at you, so I might as well make a spectacle of it rather than look like myself.”

Even Emily’s casual style is on point!

In an interview with SheKnows Canada, Emily says her love of fashion began with her role in The Devil Wears Prada. “I like more edge rather than something too girly and straight,” Emily tells the magazine. “I don’t like flouncy, and I don’t like boring. I’d prefer to go for something a little sleeker and more defined. The only way to work with fashion is to just wear whatever the hell you want to wear. If you try to morph into something you’re not, you’ll look like an idiot and you’ll get found out.”

In an interview in Huffington Post, Emily said she strives to ‘keep it real’: “I think I tend to dress quite hard. I’m definitely not a frilly girl and I don’t wear dresses that much,’ she says. She does employ a stylist, but insists that she makes the final decision: ‘When it’s a red carpet thing, I think it’s good to just go for it. Who cares if someone hates it? If I love something – if I think it’s edgy and cool – I don’t care what anyone else thinks.”

My obsession with Emily runs deep, so deep in fact, that I actually bid on a double date with her and John Krasinski, to attend the premiere of their movie, A Quiet Place. I just think that her and John would be a great couple to go out with on a double date. They are just so funny and real.
