Dinner Party with the “Original Supermodels”

With New York Fashion Week in the books and London Fashion Week now in full swing, I decided to throw another one of my {imaginary} dinner parties. This time I’m inviting the original supermodels from my era, the 1990s. My guests include Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Tatjana Patitz.

The new era of “supermodels” began in the 1990s, with the era-defining British Vogue cover of Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, and Tatjana Patitz. They embodied the term “supermodel”. Today, these five women are regarded as the “Original Supermodels” or as “The Big Five” supermodels of the 1990s. The term “The Big Five” was later used to describe Campbell, Crawford, Evangelista, Turlington and Claudia Schiffer (replacing Patitz), and with the addition of Kate Moss, they became known as “the Big Six.” {Source: Wikipedia}

So what do I plan to serve at this “supermodel” dinner party? Something light, yet filling, starting with appetizers, like the one pictured below. In keeping this dinner party casual, I would serve the appetizers outside on the back deck, by my BBQ grill. I would also have some cocktails available.

Dinner would be a large salad with several different sides of proteins – steak, chicken, tofu, and shrimp. There would be lots of salad toppings to choose from, as well as tasty salad dressings. And the table setting would be simple, yet chic, like the one pictured below {except with six table settings and not five, ‘cuz I’ve got to eat too}. I think a round table setting is a bit more intimate and casual, as opposed to a rectangular table.

I would want to listen to everything these women had to say. I would like them to talk freely, but I do have some questions that I’d like to ask them.

  1. What is your most memorable photo shoot?
  2. Which designer did you most enjoy working with?
  3. Have you ever had a fashion faux pas moment?
  4. Outside of modeling, what extracurricular activities do you like doing most?
  5. How did your modeling career start? How were you “discovered”?
  6. Are their any causes or organizations that you support?
  7. What advice would you give your younger self?
  8. What advice would you give today’s models?
  9. What is your favorite fashion accessory?
  10. How would you describe your signature style?

I’m sure more questions would follow, but that gives us a starting point. I may not have a lot in common with these women {they are all mothers and I am not, and they are all successful business women and I’m a blogger and medical assistant}, but they are role models to me.

So here’s to The Big Five” and one of the most enjoyable {imaginary} dinner parties I’ve thrown so far!

What questions would you ask these women?

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
