Jobs I Want To Try Some Day

Let me start today’s post by saying that I enjoy my job as a Registered Medical Assistant. I enjoy those I work with, and I enjoy the job in general. That being said, I still think of myself as that awkward 20-something fresh out of college with hopes and dreams of having this job or that job, but mostly I dream about being a publish and paid writer/blogger.

Now with that being said, here is a list of a few of the jobs I’d like to try someday…

1)      Actress… My husband says I’m a drama queen. I have been known to cry at the drop of a hat. And I think I have a knack for comedic timing. On certain afternoons, I am known to entertain my co-workers with my comedic skills! My memorization skills are lacking, but with enough time and practice, I think I’d make a pretty good actress. The only downside is that I’m not 20-something… I’m 40-something. I mean, really — who wants to take a risk on a 40-something wanna-be actress? If there is someone out there who would take a risk on me being in their movie, TV show, or independent film… then I’m your woman!

2)      Model… What young girl doesn’t look at the cover of all the magazines and dream of wearing the pretty clothes, traveling around the world, walking the catwalks for Chanel, Prada, or any other Fashion House, or having their make-up and hair done. And to top it off, they actually get paid to wear all of those clothes, travel the world, walk the catwalks, and wear make-up and get their hair done! I’ve seen a couple of documentaries about models and I know it’s a rough life filled with eating disorders, drugs, and alcohol. Because I love food too much, I’d be more of a “plus-size” model… and I’m okay with that! So if there is someone out there who would like to take a risk on me – a 40-year-old plus-size wanna-be model – email me!

3)      Event Planner… I love event planning. If I could make a living at it, I would totally do it! I love planning events and organizing all the details – from the flowers and food, to the location and the attire. I spent almost six year in Public Relations and I am a “people person”. I also like to sniff out good deals! I’ve planned a couple of weddings and I’ve planned a couple of anniversary and birthday parties. In fact, I helped my mother plan my grandmother’s 90th birthday party! It was fabulous! So if there’s anyone out there that would like to take a risk on me to plan an event for them, email me!

4)      Chef / Pastry Chef… I love food! Not seafood, but almost every other type of food! And I love to cook and bake. If I could afford to go to culinary school, I’d go. I have even entered those contests from Olive Garden where they advertise their contest to “spend a week in Tuscany and train with one of our master chefs.” Needless to say, I didn’t win that contest. But I would love to train with a chef, experience new foods and new tastes. So if there are any chefs or pastry chefs out there who would like to train me for any length of time, I’m game!

5)      Personal Assistant… I have kind of – in a way, at one time or another – already worked as a personal assistant, but I’ve not actually had the title of “personal assistant”. Of course, I’d love to be a Professional Personal Assistant to a celebrity and because I am a loyal, hard-working individual, I’ve learned quickly to anticipate the needs and wants of my employer. And because I work in the healthcare industry, I understand the importance of confidentiality. I’d love to work with Richard Branson; or Robert Redford (or the Sundance Institute); or Matt Damon; or Jennifer Aniston; or Tom Hanks; or Ron Howard; or Jennifer Garner; or Justin Timberlake {shout out to a good ol’ Tennessee boy}; or George Clooney and his wife Amal; or Sandra Bullock; or Angelina Jolie; or Jane Lynch; or Cosmopolitan Editor Joanna Coles; or Karl Lagerfeld; or Gwyneth Paltrow; or the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton; or heck, I’d even work for Naomi Campbell… just to name a few. So if anyone knows if these people, or anyone in the entertainment industry (film, movie, magazine/publishing) who is in need of a fan-freaking-tabulous and loyal personal assistant, email me!

6)      Travel Writer… I guess, in a way, I am already a writer, but I’d love to be a travel writer. I’d love to experience new places, new people, new things. I’d love to have a passport full of stamps and a million stories to go with those stamps! If anyone knows anyone who is looking for a travel writer, email me! In 9th and 10th grades, my friend, Stacy Kendrick, and I talked about traveling the world. I was going to write for National Geographic and she was going to take all the photos for my stories. She did get to travel the world, without me, of course. Her photographs are awesome and anyone who knew her would agree! She passed away a couple of years ago and I miss her dearly!

7)      {Fashion} Magazine Writer… I subscribe to numerous women’s fashion magazines – InStyle, People StyleWatch, Glamour, Cosmo, Marie Claire, just to name a few. I believe I have what it takes to write for any of these magazines. I know their writing style, and the general idea of what their audience is looking for because I am a reader of these magazines. I would love to even start at the bottom, kind of like Andy did in The Devil Wears Prada. I understand this industry is hard to break into and maybe, just maybe I should have started before I even graduated from college, but I’m what I like to call a late bloomer. So deal me in and see what I can do!!

When I was younger, I wanted to be a writer. I started writing short stories (albeit, cheesy juvenile short stories) and poems. I even told one of my 12th grade English teachers that I wanted to be a writer. She gently patted me on the shoulder and said I didn’t have what it took to be a writer. Needless to say, I graduated from college with an English degree and started working as a news reporter for a newspaper. A few months after starting at the newspaper, I returned to Biloxi for the homecoming game. I bumped into that English teacher and reintroduced myself to her. When she asked me what I was doing, I proudly said. “I’m a writer.”

Although I have lost my way a few times and veered off the writer’s path, my one true love is still, and will always be, writing. Regardless of what career I currently have or what job I’m working, I will always be a writer. So thanks for stopping by to read my blog posts and checking out my little slice of Green Acres!

So, what job or jobs would you love to try your hand at one day? I’d love to read all about it!

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
