A Night with Sir Elton John

I’ve been to concerts before, but when my friend, Cindy, told me that Sir Elton John was coming to Johnson City and Chattanooga, Tenn., I immediately texted my husband.

Me: “Sir Elton John is coming to Chattanooga on March 12th. Wanna go?”
Mike: “Hell yeah!”
Me: “Tickets go on sale January 15th, starting at 10 a.m.”
Mike: “Get ’em!”

I set an alert on my calendar to remind me to purchase the tickets, so when Friday, Jan. 15th came, my alarm on my phone went off at 9:55 a.m. and I went to the website and within 15 minutes, I had securely purchased two tickets for the concert.

Although Mike and I live just outside of Knoxville, we made the journey to Cleveland early that morning (to stay the night with my parents) and then attended the concert that Saturday evening.

The concert started just a little bit after 8 p.m. and lasted for over 2.5 hrs. AND IT WAS A PHENOMENAL CONCERT!!! Sir Elton John is extremely talented and The Elton John Band is equally as talented and they are all very entertaining to watch. Of course, Mike said that the bass player, Matt Bissonette, was the coolest member of the band. I thought both the drummer, Nigel Ollsen, and the percussionist, John Mahon, were the coolest, but then again, I’m biased since I was a percussionist in high school. Davey Johnstone (guitars) and Kim Bullard (keyboards) were also fantastic.

Sir Elton sang some of his classic songs, including I’m Still Standing, Candle in the Wind, Bennie and the Jets, Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues, Tiny Dancer, Saturday Night’s Allright, The Bitch is Back, and Philadelphia Freedom. From his newest album, Wonderful Crazy Night, he sang Guilty Pleasure and Looking Up. After he sang the last song, he and his band walked off stage, only to come back less than a minute later for an encore, ending the night with Crocodile Rock.

**I’d like to think that Sir Elton John was looking for me to wave directly at me, but sadly, he was just waving in general…

To say that we enjoyed the concert is an understatement. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we checked off our bucket list! If you haven’t seen Sir Elton John and his band in concert, please put it on your musical bucket list because he is very entertaining! I can’t believe it’s been two weeks since we saw Sir Elton John in concert! I’m have added him to my Pandora playlist, and I sing aloud every time one of his songs come on.

Before the concert started, we purchased the souvenir concert showbook and two t-shirts, which I will wear with pride!

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
