Magazine Overload

I recently used some airlines miles to subscribe to several of my favorite magazines. And today, I hit the motherload! I received not one, not two, but FIVE of my favorite magazines. Talk about magazine overload!

1. GLAMOUR

Can I just say that I have a crush on Sandra Bullock? Surely I’m not alone, right? She “sped” into our hearts and “while you were sleeping”, gave a “two week notice” that she was all about “the proposal.” And while “hope floats”, she charmed us and won “Miss Congeniality.”  Then for “28 days”, she tried to figure out the “divine secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” and fell in love with Keanu at “the lake house”. She had a “premonition”  about a football player, which came out of her “blind side”, but ended up in “the heat”. Finally, she floated away into “gravity” with the handsome George Clooney.  What else can I say… I love me some Sandra!

2. SELF

Jessica Alba is beautiful. She has a successful “honest” company, a slammin’ body, and a passion for both life and career. I follow her on Instagram and some of her intense workouts and yoga sessions make me sweat just looking at the photos.  I love the health tips and eercises in this magazine.

3. O, The Oprah Magazine

Celebrate who you are now! I’m actually looking at that tasty looking turkey and wondering when she’s going to invite me to her place in Hawaii for Thanksgiving. I enjoy everything about this magazine, from the recipes to the “O List”,  from “The World According to Gayle” to “The Gratitude Meter. She has such capitvating interviews with poeople who are changing not only their world, but ours as well.

4. VOGUE

Anna Wintour is as much VOGUE as VOGUE is Anna Wintour. Vogue is in some respects the “Fashion Bible”. With page after glorious colorful page of advertisments, each article in istelf is an advertisment for some fashion label where actors/actresses or models are wearing luxury labels. There are, of course, articles on beauty and health, theater, movies, and fashion. But let’s face it, as much as I love toread the articles in Vogue, I love even more to dream about the lovely luxury labels.

5. InStyle

Drew draws you in with her eyes. The fact that she melted our hearts in E.T. the Extra Terrestrial has cemented her in our minds as a sweet but wild and rebelious child actors turned  to one of America’s sweethearts. Of course, I was introduced to InStyle in the mid-1990s when I was staying with my Anut Juanita and Uncle Avery in Utah. I read page after page, issue after issue, and loved everything about it. so… basically my feelings for InStyle have only intensified. In enjoy seeing how readers are “Inspired by InStyle”, and I love to read the editor’s note, mainly because the editor is a male (Ariel Foxman), and it’s nice to get a male’s professional opinion on what’s “haute” in fashion right now. I love the style tips, the interviews, and the great bits of information for readers.

Other magazines I subscribe to are Marie Claire, AllurePeople StyleWatch, Afar, Entertainment Weekly, Sunset, Health, Conde Nast Traveler, and Travel+Leisure. Yes, I love magazines; and yes, I would love to write a column for one or more of these magazines. I love the way the ink sometimes rubs off on my fingers while I’m reading them. I love to lounge in the bathtub and read a magazine from front cover to back cover. And I love to travel with several magazines at the ready.

So, to those people who ask me how I know so much about celebrities, fashion, actors, actresses, models, and far-away destinations that few people have heard of… well, it’s because I love to read magazines and I love to read about people, the movers and the shakers, their jobs, their lives, their vacations, and their fashion.

What are some of your favorite magazines?  And what keeps you subscribing to these magazines year after year after year?

Have a great day!
