My husband and I watched a movie that he actually liked. The Equalizer.

The movie stars Denzel Washington as Robert McCall, who sets out to rescue, of sorts, Teri (played by Chloe Grace Moretz), a teenager who gets roughed up by Russian mobsters.

In the process, he uses his specific set of skills to help out some people who are close to him. The movie takes place in Boston, Mass. Marton Csokas stars as the bad guy, Teddy, who makes it his mission to take down Robert McCall, but not before McCall takes out more than half of the Russian mobsters. The standoff ultimately ends in the Home Mart.

This movie is a reboot of the short-lived TV show of the same name. In the TV show, Robert McCall was a former covert operations office, but in the movie, he works at Home Mart (a mash-up of Home Depot and Lowe’s). Denzel Washington’s character may have worked as a covert operations officer, but I don’t recall anything specific that allures to it.

“The series stars British actor Edward Woodward as Robert McCall, a former covert operations officer of an unnamed U.S. Government intelligence organization, which was often referred to simply as “The Agency” or “The Company” (it is implied that it is the CIA), who tries to atone for past sins by offering, free of charge, his services as a troubleshooter, a protector, and an investigator. People in need find him through a newspaper ad: “Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer. 212 555 4200.” When he begins this business in the pilot episode, it is revealed that the nickname “Equalizer” was bestowed on him by another operative by the name of “Brahms,” played by Jerry Stiller.” (Source: Wikipedia)

In Washington’s long movie career, he has never done a sequel, but The Equalizer just may be it.
