Wanderlust Wednesday: My Travel Bucket List, Part 1

Like most people, I have a bucket list full of places, near and far, that I want to see. I’ve even written about some of those places in previous posts, but I wanted to share a few of those beautiful locations again in a special series of “wanderlust Wednesday” posts.

Italy

I’ve previously written about Italy, and in another post, I wrote about the tiny Italian island of Capri. This boot-shaped European country is on my bucket list because of both the book and the movie, “Under the Tuscan Sun”, starring Diane Lane as Frances Mayes.

After seeing this movie, I fantasized about purchasing my own Tuscan villa and renovating it. Silly, I know, but sometimes movies and books give us fantastical ideas to dream about.

Capri, an island in Italy’s Bay of Naples, is famed for its rugged landscape, upscale hotels and shopping, from designer fashions to limoncello and handmade leather sandals. One of its best-known natural sites is the Blue Grotto, a dark cavern where the sea glows electric blue, the result of sunlight passing through an underwater cave. In summer, Capri’s dramatic, cove-studded coastline draws many yachts.

For me, it would take about a month to fully experience all that Italy has to offer: from the Almalfi Coast to Milan, from Campiania to Venice, and from Rome to the Vatican City. The food. The fashion. The wines. The cheeses. I would definitely love having Giada De Laurentiis as my tour guide in Italy.

Bali

“Bali is a living postcard, an Indonesian paradise that feels like a fantasy. Soak up the sun on a stretch of fine white sand, or commune with the tropical creatures as you dive along coral ridges or the colorful wreck of a WWII war ship. On shore, the lush jungle shelters stone temples and mischievous monkeys. The “artistic capital” of Ubud is the perfect place to see a cultural dance performance, take a batik or silver-smithing workshop, or invigorate your mind and body in a yoga class.” {Source: TripAdvisor}

Going into one of the many temples is on everyone’s must-see-must-do list when they visit Bali. Take these dress code tips into consideration before entering one of the temples.

Morocco

If you look up photos of Morocco on Pinterest, you’ll see dozens upon dozens of photos of beautiful doorways, colorful markets, and stunning hidden gems like cool surf spots, beaches, mosques, and gardens.

If you are a woman and you’re thinking about traveling to Morocco by yourself, with friends, or your partner, then you definitely need to check out these “10 useful tips for women visiting Morocco”, by Amanda Mouttaki of Marocmama.

Sarah Williams, of Culture Trip, details 11 hidden gems in Morocco that will give you some major wanderlust, like Demnate, El Jadida, Oujda, and Safi.

I don’t think that beautiful sites like these exist in the U.S.

PureWow writer, Roberta Fiorito, wrote that there are several reasons to travel to Morocco, including the “blue-sky alleyways, world-class food, and cobblestone markets.” I could probably spend hours, if not days, walking around the souks, or the markets and bazaars, browsing {and buying, smelling, touching, tasting, trying out, and trying on} all they have to offer, from spices to babouches, or traditional leather slippers.

Cabo San Lucas

Ever since I watched The Heartbreak Kid, with Ben Stiller, Malin Akerman, and Michelle Monaghan, and saw the beautiful resort that they stayed in at Cabo San Lucas, I have wanted to go there. In the movie, they stay at Esperanza, an Auberge Resorts Collection. The beaches and the cliffside dining area alone were enough to tug at my wanderlust heartstrings.

There are many things to do in Cabo, like visiting El Arco and Land’s End, pictured below. Esther and Jacob, of Local Adventurer, have detailed 21 things to do in Cabo San Lucas, plus one thing you should never do. They also suggest you try eating fresh fruits, shopping at the flea markets, and flying through the air on Mexico’s longest, highest, and fastest zip line.

Ireland

My husband’s a dream vacation is for us to go to Ireland. I have researched this lush green Island for several years now. I feel like I have put together several itineraries for him to choose from, but we have yet to make it to the land of his ancestors. I would love to surprise him one year, and whisk him away to Ireland.

Irish Fireside has put together several resources in one location, including travel checklist, beginners guide to Ireland, train travel in Ireland, podcasts, travel tips, Irish culture and heritage, places to see, and a travel stories.
