Links I Love: May

Links I Love

I’ve been kind of out of it the past couple of months, since Daisy’s passing. And although I haven’t been writing much {where the heck did I put my editorial calendar?}, I have been reading quite a bit {both blogs and newsletters}, and binge-watching TV shows, like The Royals, Suits, and Chuck {thanks, Amazon Prime}. I’ve also been perusing Pinterest, trying to decide if I want to cut my hair. So to help pick myself up out of this rut I’ve been in lately, this month’s “Links I Love” are both motivating and stylish!

Because I’ve been so “unmotivated” to write lately or even stick to my editorial calendar {like I used to do}, I’m kind of like having a bit of a burnout moment. I know studies have shown that millennials are supposedly the most stressed out generation. Whatever!! Every generation gets stressed out, and experiences burnout. But there are ways to bounce back from burnout, like meditating, laughing, and playing outside like a kid. For more ways to beat burnout, check out this post at Create + Cultivate.

Ways to Beat Burnout: meditate, laugh, and write.

With Summer nipping at our heels, I’m always looking for easy pieces to put together. Summer styles don’t have to be expensive, which is why I like these nine cute summer outfits under $100, found on Pure Wow. These looks are so effortlessly stylish.

Do you have any travel plans this summer? Are you and your family or friends hitting the road for a long weekend getaway? And did you know that your state has some gratis things to keep you and your family/friends busy all summer. Pure Wow has compiled a list of 100 free things to do this summer. And don’t forget to check out all of the free events happening in your city.

There are hundreds of free things to in America this summer.

They say “time flies when you’re having fun”, but time really flies after you turn 40! So if you’re turning 40 this year, or if you’re like me and smack-dab in the middle of your 40s, then make the most of it. Estee Stanley {of My Domaine} compiled a list of 40 awesome things to do in your 40s. Some of her ideas seem a bit lavish {“Go somewhere international that you’ve never been.”} while others are so practical and totally possible to do {at any age}!

Embrace your 40s and do some amazing things!

Summer is the perfect time to lay by the pool or sit out on the back deck and catch up on some reading. I always love to see what other people are reading, and this list by Jordan Baer {of FabFitFun} contains some great reads, from a biography on Robin Williams to the sequel of The Devil Wears Prada. Also check out this list of the best beach reads at Pure Wow.

Pick up one of this Summer’s must-read books before your head out to hang by the pool.

Having naturally curly hair can be both a blessing and a curse, but deciding to go curly after years of straightening your hair can be controversial, especially in certain cultures. I have had curly hair for as long as I can remember and there were times when I invested in flatirons and blowdryers, all in the quest to have shiny straight hair. Zarna Surti wrote an essay for Refinery 29 about the controversy of going curly as an Indian woman.

Who knew that embracing your natural curls could be so controversial.

Whatever your doing this Memorial Day weekend, I hope you’re having a wonderfully relaxing holiday. Enjoy these links!

Now to get my behind into gear and start working on my editorial calendar for June!

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
