Wanderlust Wednesday: Cabo San Lucas

Ever since I watched The Heartbreak Kid, with Ben Stiller, Malin Akerman, and Michelle Monaghan, and saw the beautiful resort that they stayed in at Cabo San Lucas, I have wanted to go there. In the movie, they stay at Esperanza, an Auberge Resorts Collection. The beaches and the cliffside dining area alone were enough to tug at my wanderlust heartstrings.

Those who live on the West Coast can just hop a flight to Cabo easy peasy, but those of us who live on the East Coast have a longer flight to and from Cabo. So taking a weekend trip to Cabo is kind of out of the question. Basically us East Coasters have to take a longer vacation in order to really enjoy Cabo. I’d like to take at least a week-long vacation so I can experience everything that an all-inclusive resort has to offer. I’d also like to see some of the sites around Cabo and taste a bit of the local food.

There are many things to do in Cabo, like visiting El Arco and Land’s End, pictured below. Esther and Jacob, of Local Adventurer, have detailed 21 things to do in Cabo San Lucas, plus one thing you should never do. They also suggest you try eating fresh fruits, shopping at the flea markets, and flying through the air on Mexico’s longest, highest, and fastest zip line.

Some resorts are not beach-front, but a good beach is not hard to find. You can stop by Medano Beach, or head out to Lover’s Beach or Divorce Beach. Interested in surfing? Then head over to Costa Azul, home to the famous Zipper’s break.

Travel + Leisure named several of Cabo resorts to their Top Mexico Beach Resorts lists, including The Resort at Pedregal (No. 2), Esperanza, an Auberge Resort Collection (No. 5), One & Only Palmilla, Los Cabos (No. 6), Las Ventanas al Paraiso, a Rosewood Resort, San Jose del Cabo (No. 14), Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos Resort (No. 18), Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Resort (No. 24), Cabo Azul Resort, San Jose del Cabo (No. 27), and Grand Solmar Land’s End Resort & Spa (No. 29).

Ray Bartlett, writer for Lonely Planet, wrote that “restaurants offer steals on excellent seafood and Mexican fare – many allowing you to bring in your own catch of the day so they can grill it for you.” Those looking to party should hit up Cabo Wabo, owned by Sammy Hagar. Or dine with flair at Mi Casa (seen below).

I know it seems like I keep coming back to Esperanza, but it keeps landing on so many magazine’s top resorts lists, including The Best Resorts in Mexico list in Coastal Living. Can you imagine staying in a beautiful oceanview room like the one pictured below?

Erica, who writes for Honestly WTF, shares my love of Cabo! She shared such beautiful photos of Esperanza. When (not if) I travel to Cabo, Esperanza would be my first choice of resorts.

I think this beach seating at The Resort at Pedregal is fabulous. It’s perfect for a joint Bachelor-Bachelorette party, or for a large family reunion.

So now that you’re booked your week long trip to Cabo, what do you pack? Well Jessica Doll, with Hej Doll, has come up with a wonderfully versatile wardrobe. Now mind you, it’s for a 10-day vacation, but you could certainly pare it down for whatever your vacation needs are.

Have you been to Cabo San Lucas? Where did you stay, or where would you recommend my husband and I stay? What local eateries did you enjoy or where would you recommend we eat? Did you shop the flea markets? Did you find any bargains? I’d love to hear about your Cabo adventures, so leave your comments below!

Yours Truly,
Vanessa

  1. Wow! What a place! Of course I would like to see this place. And if you say you are on the east coast, I’m typing this from the south east of the world. 😉

    1. Thanks, Parul! There are so many beautiful beaches around here in North America. And India is on my bucket list! If I make it to Bangalore, I’ll look you up!
