10 Tips on How to Stay Warm and Stylish this Winter

Winter is here and I’ve got some great tips on how to stay warm while looking like a fashionista! Friday was my birthday and it actually snowed! Talk about an unexpected, but pretty awesome, birthday surprise! It was also 19-degrees outside and my tushie was freezing! {Thank God for the seat warmers in my VW!}

On Saturday, my husband took me out for lunch at Longhorn’s Steakhouse for my birthday. I wear scrubs all week and so the weekends are mine to fashion as I want, and I love to show off my style. So on Saturday I wore my G by Guiliana boyfriend jeans, a peasant top, and my wedge booties. I also wore my Whitney Port fingerless gloves, which I got in one of my FabFitFun boxes, and my Harley Davidson coat. It’s an eclectic mix of fashion, but it kept me warm

Here are some other stylish winter looks I’m loving right now!

So here are some tips that you can use to keep yourself warm this winter.

1 . Warm yourself first. Before you leave the house, make sure that body is warm from your head to your toes. I always find that if my toes and/or fingers are cold, then I can’t seem to get warm.

2. Wear a hat, beanie, headband or head warmer. Winter can wreak havoc on your hair, bringing with it static, which can get worse when you wear hats. Don’t forget to smooth your hair with some kind of anti-static product, like Frizz-Ease or R+Co Static Control spray. Also, if you want to wear headbands but don’t want to spend a whole lot of money, you can DIY your own.

3. Layer it up. I find wearing layers during the winter months means that if or when you start to get warm, you can take off a layer or two.

4. Wear a statement scarf. I love scarves! When I find a scarf I like, I usually get it in two or three other colors or styles. I am also loving my ModCloth blanket scarf, which I received in my fall FabFitFun box.

5. Remember – it is sweater weather. You can wear chunky cable knit sweaters or thinner, lightweight sweaters {for layering}. I usually wear a Forever 21 tank top under a lightweight sweater.

6. Wear OTK boots. Over-the-knee boots are so stylish for winter. You can dress them up or dress them down. You can wear them with leggings or a skirt or a dress.

7. Slip on some socks. Staying warm is a must this winter, and if your slogging through snow and slush for any period of time, then your feet are going to get cold real quick. Wearing socks will keep your tootsies nice and warm.

8. Wear {faux} fur. It really is the chicest and warmest way to stay warm. Faux fur not only looks stylish, but it also adds a bit of flair to any winter outfit. The key to wearing fur is to just wear one furry piece and keep the rest of the outfit simple. This way the fur stands out and makes a statement.

9. Add leather to your wardrobe. As my husband always says, “you’ve never seen a cow shiver when it’s cold, right?”

10. Repurpose your summer wardrobe. Layer a summer dress over a turtleneck. Add some tights, booties, and your favorite coat.

Vanessa
