Ashley Graham Gets “Real”

If you don’t know who Ashley Graham is, then you must be out of the loop. She is a fashion and lingerie model, a role model for women everywhere, and a woman who just so happens to be beautifully curvy. She is also one of three beautiful women featured in the upcoming swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated.

This Nebraska native recently said that people needed to stop putting labels on curvy women.

“You know, I don’t like to use the words ‘real women,’ honestly,” she said. “I like to use the word woman. And I say that because there are so many women out there who are naturally thin, or are naturally curvy, and I think when we start putting a label on the type of woman it gets misconstrued and starts to offend people.” (Source: Today)

Ms. Graham is a role model, not because she embraces her curves or stands up to those people who try to label her, but because she is healthy and happy. Is she beautiful? Yes! Does she look like Eva Mendes is some of her photos? Yes! Does she have a curvy, enviable body? Yes!

When I read that she is between a size 14-16, I thought to myself, “Heck, she is just 1-3 sizes larger than me (depending on the day), and she loves and embraces her curves!” She flaunts her sensuality, and doesn’t let people’s opinion affect how she lives her life.
