Have a Zen Moment

I often try to have zen-like moments, encouraging myself to keep calm, reflecting on the goodness within and without, and trying to bring a little peace to my mind and to my world.

So when I found this list – “10 to Zen” – I thought I would share it with you because I thought we could all use a few Zen-like moments in our day and in our lives.

I think it’s important to “let go.” Most people I know say, “let go and let God…” That’s a good starting point… But the Zen philosophy(if that’s what you want to call it) of “letting go” is good for everyday life, for anyone’s life, for the believer or the non-believer.

Do you compare yourself to someone else? “I’m not as skinny as her” or “he is more talented than I am” or “she can sing and dance way better than I can” or “he is way smarter than I am.” If you do this, let it go…

Do you compete with others, or even with yourself? Do you try to outdo your friends or constantly try to mentally compete against the person you think you should be? If you do this, let it go…

The Bible says, “judge not lest ye be judged.” Are you guilty of judging others, when you should actually be withholding judgment because that’s the correct thing to do? If you do this, let it go…

Are you quick to anger? Do you take your anger out on others or even take it out on yourself? If you do this, let it go…

Do you, like me, have regrets? “I regret doing that” or “I regret not going there”. I don’t think there is anything we can really do about our past regrets except learn from them. We all have a regret or two or three. If you do this, let it go…

I am a worrier, have been ever since I can remember. I worry about whether I am going to mass this registered medical assistant test. I worry about job security. I worry about finances. I worry about my husband. And I worry about life, as broad that is. If, like me, you do this, let it go…

We have all played the “blame game” and we have all “passed the buck”, because some part of us didn’t want to accept the responsibility that something went wrong or that something failed. If this is you, then let it go…

Guilt… We have ll felt guilt at one point in our lives. If you have never felt guilt, then I would live to talk with you… But until that person steps forward to explain to me how one lives without feeling guilt about something, I guess guilt will still be around for those of us who feel it every now and then. If this is you, let it go…

Fear is something I have lived with for numerous years. When I feel fearful, I quote the scripture from the Bible, “For God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of love, and of peace, and of a sound mind.” Some people fear going outside; others fear worms. Whatever your fear, learn to let it go…

And most importantly, and I don’t care how you go about accomplishing this, but have a good belly laugh. Laugh with your heart and body. A co-worker of mine once told me that she loved my laugh. I simply responded that “I simply love life.”

I do love life, but I also compare myself to others; I compete with others as well as with myself; I make snap judgments about people; I get angry sometimes; I have a lot of regrets; I worry way too much about things I cannot control; I have sometimes blamed others for mistakes that I have made; I feel guilt; and I fear things known and things unknown.

But like I have been saying all along… Let it go…

Thankfully I can belly laugh with the best of them!

Have a great day!
