Wanna Be Fashionista in the Making

At the beginning of last year, one of my first posts was about my being a “wanna be fashionista”, which I still am!

(You can read about it here, and I wrote it almost one year ago to the day!)

Now I can be a “wanna be fashionista in the making” because I got a sewing machine for Christmas from my husband and my parents! I AM SO EXCITED!

Ok… I haven’t actually taken it out of the box yet, but this weekend I have some major plans for that sewing machine… I wanna make a dress! I wanna hem up some scrub pants! I wanna… I wanna… Actually, the first thing I need to do is put together about 10 or 15 small bobbins full of thread… then I’ll be set to start tackling my “I wanna” list!

First off, the sewing machine is a Singer Quantum…. blah, blah, blah… and it has settings to do about 20 different types of stitches, like 15 different types of buttonholes, and I can even do some monogramming stuff! It is major cool!

I’m not gonna run off and audition for “Project Runway”, but I may one of these days… just not today!

Here are some of the “I wanna do” things on my list…

1) I love the casual look of maxi dresses. I will definitely make myself a few of this style of dress, except I may vary the length of it. I also like the diagonal squiggly stripes (grey, pale yellow, pale green, and white) in the material. The blog – A Small Snippet – has easy-to-follow directions. At first glance, it looks like material sewed to a tank top and given an empire waist with a wide belt, but it is tres chic!

2) This blog – Sweet Verbena – shows just how easy it is to make a boho maxi dress! I have the perfect material to try out this pattern!

3) This is very similar to the first dress, and I love how “imperfectly polished” this dress looks. This blogger at Imperfectly Polished has combined a fancy tank with a long maxi skirt… very cool!

4) This next DIY outfit combines a white dress shirt with material around the bottom. It is a cool way wear “color block”. It’s also a cool way to add a pop of color to an outfit!

And for some downtime, here is a “no-sew” project I will probably work on.

If you read or follow my blog, you know that almost every week last year I posted a “Dress Form Outfit.” This year, I’m doing things a bit differently when it comes to my dress form. Having received a Singer sewing machine for Christmas, I decided to dress my dress form after I finish a project. I have three New Look patterns that I purchased from Hobby Lobby last summer and I hope to work on those this year. So basically, anything I myself sew, will eventually be displayed on my dress form.

Well, I better get to reading my owner’s manual… gotta make some bobbins before I can get to sewing! Wish me luck!

Have a great day!
