A Season of Change

Spring “Marches” in and brings “April” showers, which brings “May” flowers… or something like that! What I mean is that Spring is almost here!

A lot has happened in the last month and now I have a lot of time on my hands! All I need to do is figure out what I’m going to do with that time! I guess now I have no excuse not to work on that screenplay for the Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab.

So here’s an update…

First of all, I am officially without a job, which is okay because with my experience I know I can find a job. I was (unofficially) laid off for “lack of work.” The surgeon I worked for accepted a job in another city and it was too far for me to commute. I guess the one good thing I did for someone else was helping him close his office so quickly and efficiently, which as his scheduling coordinator was a fairly easy task. I will miss both him and his wife and wish them both the best! He has been the best employer for the past nine years!

Secondly, I finished my “Month of Letters” Challenge. I know I only had to write 24 letters, but I literally wrote one for every day of the month of February. I feel a sense of accomplishment for having written 29 of my friends and family members, so I have decided to continue writing letters. I won’t write a letter every day but maybe once a week or twice a month. It’s a great way to let people know that you’re thinking about them, especially in an age where email and texts are the main form of communication between family and friends. I’d rather Skype (where I can see the person I’m talking with), talk on the phone, or write a letter to someone. Those forms of communication seem more personal.

I want to say a BIG “THANK YOU” to those friends who either wrote back or sent me a message via Facebook. I’m glad you received my letter or card. Knowing that I have your correct address means you can most likely expect more snail mail from me (and hopefully it will bring a little ray of sunshine your way)!

I initially found the challenge via Pinterest and googled it. From there I was lead to Mary Robinette Kowal’s website and her post about the “Month of Letters” Challenge. So a special thank you to Ms. Kowal. I received your postcard today!

I have to confess that I actually wrote a few celebrities as part of this letter-writing challenge. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose so I just did it! I’m not the first person to write a fan letter and I definitely won’t be the last, right?

And finally, this year’s Season of Lent is in full swing and my goal of giving up something bad for me and taking up something good is not going as well as last year’s Season of Lent.

With this time off, I’m hitting the gym more but my eating habits still suck! One good thing is my “cursing” has all but stopped! I still have a few more weeks until Lent is officially over, so I still have some time left to bring a complete end to a bad habit (or two).

Well, I hope everyone takes advantage of their own personal “season of change” and does something productive and positive! Have a great weekend!
