Wanderlust Wednesday: Oh The Places I Would Go…

Wanderlust Wednesday Maderia Portugal

“I would gladly live out of a suitcase if it meant I could see the world.” I haven’t done a “Wanderlust Wednesday” post in several months, but that doesn’t mean that I no longer have those moments that I don’t wish that I could just take a year off and travel. I still have “itchy feet,” or what people may call “wanderlust”, or a very strong or irresistible impulse to travel and explore the world. I haven’t been all over the world (yet), but I always say that when I hit the lottery, I’m going to do some serious traveling! […]

Wanderlust Wednesday: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Wanderlust Wednesday: Rio de Janeiro / www.vanesshwood.com

Later this summer, Rio de Janeiro will be hosting the Summer Olympics. And despite the Zika virus flying around down in Brazil (’cause it’s flying around here in the U.S. as well), Rio de Janeiro is a city full of beauty. Find the King and You’ll Have Good Luck!

Growing up in West Texas, I never celebrated, or for that matter, heard of Mardi Gras. It wasn’t until my family moved to Biloxi, Miss., in 1989, that Mardi Gras even entered my life. The purple, yellow, and green costumes and masks; the dozens of parades up and down the coast in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas; the beads, small and large; and the King Cakes. Photo Credit: Etsy.com My last two years in high school were spent in Biloxi, Miss., and in February I participated in several parades because I was in the band and we marched in […]

Reflecting on Lent

“Throw me some beads, mister!” The last day of gluttony, debauchery, wild celebrations, and a last hoo-rah for anyone and everyone preparing for the upcoming Lent season is today – “Fat Tuesday”, for tomorrow is Ash Wednesday. As anyone knows who participates in Lent, Ash Wednesday starts the fasting and religious obligations associated with the season of Lent. This year, Lent begins on Wednesday, Feb. 13th, and go until Saturday, March 30th, with Easter Sunday on March 31st. Being from West Texas, I don’t ever recall being familiar with Mardi Gras or “Carnaval”… that is, until I moved to Biloxi, Miss., and was given […]
