Links I Love: October 2020

Links I Love: October 2020 / www.vanessahwood.com

This past month, my in-box was exploding with great links, but since I’ve procrastinated the past couple of months, I decided that this time around, my “LINKS I LOVE” would cover not only October, but August and September! It’s full of book recs, style, beauty, and travel inspo.

Yikes! There is less than two months left of this year and I’m still putting off today what I can do tomorrow, or the next day, or the day after that. But no more… I’ve decided to stop procrastinating.

{Can we just say that I’ve been procrastinating — MAJOR!! I don’t even have an excuse as to why I’ve not really posted much these past few months, but that’s another blog topic for another day!}

So without further ado… here are the some of the links I loved these past three months. Grab a cup of coffee, or a Diet Coke, sit back, relax, and just know that this is gonna be a loooooooong list! Happy Saturday!

October “Links I Love”

40 Female Artists Sing “Dream” {livelovesara} – These women and their beautiful voices will either make you swoon or make you want to sing along.

Styling Leather Pants {Carrie Bradshaw Lied} – I am so envious of the way Kathleen styles her outfits, from animal print skirts to leather pants.

How to Do (or Get) a Lymphatic Massage {Goop} – I’ve seen celebs like Cindy Crawford and Elle Macpherson tout the benefits of lymphatic massage that it has peaked my curiosity.

How to Wear Eye Makeup With Glasses {Marie Claire, via The Newsette} – As a woman who wears glasses, this “how-to” was informative. My main fear of wearing eye makeup is how not to look like I’ve got two black eyes hiding behind my glasses.

The Best Way to Store Face Masks {Domino} – After I wash my face masks, I hang them up to dry. How do you store your face masks?

There Are Lots of Things Wrong with ‘Emily in Paris’ but Sylvie and Camille’s Style Isn’t One of Them {ELLE UK} – Ok… I’ll admit I binge watched this one Sunday. And yes, I loved the fashion as well as the whole “Paris” thing. Netflix had me at “in Paris”. Emily’s style was quirky and trendy, but Sylvie’s style was so chic and sophisticated.

20 Photos to Inspire You to Visit French Polynesia {The Blonde Abroad} – The French Polynesia is definitely on my bucket list, and these photos are dreamy and make me want to pack a bag today and book the first flight I can get.

How to Wear a Beret Without Looking Like a French Cartoon {PureWow} – I love berets. I don’t currently own one, but I still love the way they look, the ways you can style them, the French chic way they make you look and feel.

Harry in Italy {Rolling Stone} – I have to admit… I loved One Direction, and like many women, Harry Styles was my favorite. His summer hit, “Watermelon Sugar”, is one of my favorite songs to dance to around the house. Harry’s latest single, “Golden”, will be added to my playlist.

And because we could all use a little LOL right now, I first saw this link on The Stripe.

September “Links I Love”

Enchanting Homes in Marrakech {Architectural Digest} – Travel bans be damned. It’s links like this some serious wanderlust. Lawyer turned designer Meryanne Loum-Martin shares a few photos from her upcoming book, Inside Marrakesh: Enchanting Homes and Gardens (Rizzoli, $60).

Kate Middleton’s Quite Power {Vogue UK} – With all the drama surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan, I’m finding that the “quite power” of Kate Middleton quite inspiring.

10 Things To Do On Your Day Off {Lauren Conrad} – I don’t take off nearly as many days as I should {or need to}, but that’s about to change. A few of these ideas {on what to do on your day off} are right up my alley, like DIY hand embroider denim, make your own wall art, and try a new recipe.

Emily Thorne’s Taylor Swift HIIT Workout {PopSugar, via The Skimm} – After watching the Netflix doc on Taylor Swift, Miss Americana, I’m a Swift fan. I’m getting older every day and my old bones aren’t what they used to be, but I’m up for the challenge and really want to try this HIIT workout.

20 Stylish Fall Outfit Ideas {Fashion Jackson} – If there is one blogger’s style that I love, it’s Amy Jackson, founder of Fashion Jackson. Her style guides are wonderful, especially if you’re looking for outfit inspo.

The Street Style Way to Channel Your Inner Tomboy {Savoir Flair} – I was such a tomboy growing up. I guess, even at 47, I’m still a bit of a tomboy. And there is nothing wrong with that! There is something inherently cool about “all of the slouchy sweaters, fancy suits, boyfriend jeans, and combat boots.”

August’s “Links I Love”

Beach Reads Perfect for Summer {Southern Living} – Summer may be over, but these books can whisk you away on a summer holiday. And if you like beach reads, then you’ll like the books on this list about books that would make wonderful Hallmark movies.

Body Plane / Body Tools {Camille Styles} – I love reading about new beauty tools, and it seems like a new tool is introduced every month or so. My latest “want” is this body plane tool. It gently exfoliates the skin without damaging or irritating the moisture barrier, helps to smooth the skin and alleviates roughness and patchiness {including ingrown hairs and and keratosis pilaris}, and it deep cleans the body {removing dirt, residue, and excess sebum}.

{Also check out this link to 5 face yoga exercises.}

{Side Note: I was excited to see the Esker body plane as part of FabFitFun’s add-ons. Yes, I added it to my Winter 2020 box and I can’t wait to get it and start using it!}

Living in a Yurt {Domino} – “Bohemian or rustic design details may come to mind most frequently when you think of yurts,” and when I think of yurts, I think “fancy glamping” like the lodging accommodations at music festivals like Glastonbury or Burning Man.

The couple in this article {Zach Both and Nicole Lopez} wanted to make their yurt less like a tent and more like a home. Zach bought his yurt kit from Rainier Outdoor, and they DIY-ed it to make their yurt a home.

My husband wants to put “tiny houses” on part of our property for people visiting Windrock Mountain, but I would much rather see a couple of yurts instead.

Etiquette Rules We Should Never Have Abandoned {Reader’s Digest} – We are living in a time where riots, brutality, and negativity abound, and I wish we could go back to a time when “thank you” and “please” and true etiquette rules still, well… ruled.

So there you have it…

Three months worth of “links I love”. I am challenging myself to get back on track with not only my blog, but with my whole fitness and lifestyle routine. Wish me luck!

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
