Things That Make Me Happy (a.k.a. My Little Happies)

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and came across several #MyLittleHappies photos, where people listed “little happy things” in their life. I thought that this was a great idea, in that making a list, and I mean physically writing a list of little happy things, is a great reminder to stop and smell the roses.

It all started when I found Jacey Duprie’s (Damsel in Dior) list. I love that she put “breaking an egg” and “a fully charged battery” on her happy list. Then I found Mary Kendall Butler’s list, and I liked that she put “unsubscribe here” and “riding over acorns on a bike.” Ms. Butler has complied several “little happy things” lists, all of which you can find on her Instagram account.

“A great life isn’t about the huge things; it’s about small things that make a big difference.”

So here’s my “little happy things” list…

  • the way my husband’s head smells after he shaves it (Thanks to The Art of Shaving in Sandalwood).
  • cuddle-time with my Daisy.
  • the way Doc lets me rest my forehead on his.
  • a cotton candy-colored sunrise or sunset.
  • the look of a fresh mani or pedi.
  • the feeling I get as I watch other people open presents.
  • paying for the order of the person behind me in line.
  • the smell of bacon.
  • seeing an elderly couple holding hands.
  • scrolling through photos of my family.
  • when someone I don’t know leaves a nice comment on my blog.
  • laughing until I cry.
  • saying “The Lord’s Prayer” or my favorite scripture (2 Timothy 1:7).
  • hearing a British accent… or any foreign accent for that matter.
  • watching my three nieces laugh.
  • clean sheets.
  • dreaming of a loved one who has passed away.
  • ICD 10 codes.
  • when my eyebrows are “on fleek”.
  • Junior Mints and Diet Coke.
  • cute texts with my husband.
  • tight hugs.
  • long replies.
  • holding hands.
  • kisses on the forehead.

I think I’ll make my “little happy list” a regular part of my blog, because (1) it makes me think about what really makes me happy, and (2) it makes me appreciate the little happy things in my life. I have a small notebook that I think I’ll start writing down the little things that make me happy so I don’t forget anything.

I think it’s important not to forget the little things that make us happy. Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you will look back and realize they were the big things.

So what makes you happy? What little happy things would you put on your list?

Yours Truly,
Vanessa

  1. Do you know what makes me happiest? Going to the movies and watching my daughter laugh? I don’t really go for the move I go to here her laugh. It makes my heart sing. ixi
