Creative & Clever Halloween Costumes

Halloween is all about the candy, but it’s also about the creative and clever costumes that you can make yourself. Whether your attending a party, hosting a party, or just staying home to pass out candy, you can put together a creative costume this weekend, just in time for next weekend’s early Halloween parties.

Dress as a Disney princess. Make a splash as a mermaid. Strap on some suspenders and be a nerd. The possibilities of an awesome Halloween costume are endless.

Some costumes can be as simple as painting your face and wearing an all monochomatic outfit. For instance, you can really stand out in a crowd with your face painted like the “Dia de los Muertos”, a.k.a., Day of the Dead. This simple step-by-step guide shows you how to do it, and the colors can be up to you!

And who doesn’t love Cookie Monster? This simple outfit can be made in just a couple of hours with some craft supplies from Hobby Lobby. Bonus points for making homemade chocolate chip cookies to hand out to your friends.

It’s not enough for us to look at fashion bloggers for style inspiration in our every-day lives, but we look to them for how to dress on vacation, to weddings or special events, and yes, even for Halloween costumes. So, do you wanna know how fashion bloggers dress for Halloween? They take their inspiration from movies and TV shows, but they also dress as Disney princesses, nerds, zombies, and even celebrities.

I love these “early 2000s” costume ideas, because they include the inspiration behind them. If you don’t recognize the inspiration for these costumes, then you have a lot of movies and TV shows to watch. Wanna dress like the “Plastics” from Mean Girls? Then grab a few friends and coordinate your outfits. Do you love Britney Spears? Then why don’t you and some of your friends dress like Britney from some of her videos (“Oops, I Did it Again”, “I’m a Slave for You”, and “Toxic”). Again, the ideas are endless!

You have just over a week to prepare your costume for any Halloween party that you may be going to, so I hope that you find some inspiration from these creative and clever ideas.

I’d love to see photos of your Halloween costumes, so get back with me after Halloween and show me your costumes! I’d love to see what you decided to wear. So leave a link in the comments below so I can go check out your costume! Or better yet, tag me on Instagram (@vanessa_h_wood) or Twitter (@vannadee37) so I can check out your Halloween photos!

As always, be careful as you go out to the various parties, or go trick-or-treating with friends or your children. Wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight or glow stick. Remind children to (a) never enter someone’s home and (b) never run across the street. Check all the candy you bring home. But most importantly, and this one is just for the adults… please don’t drink and drive!

Have fun everyone!

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
