Throwback Thursday: No Time For Skirts

Back in Junior High, I wanted to be an actor. I wanted to take the stage by storm, showcase my talent on the big screen, and win an award. That dream was burning bright in my heart and soul in 9th grade when my drama class, taught by Mrs. Mayberry,  put on the play, “No Time For Skirts”.

Above is a photo of the newspaper clipping of my drama class, “in character”. Needless to say, there were only four guys in our class, and one guy had to play a dual role.

My friend, Stacy Kendrick, and I played the two handymen. My character’s name was Mr. Bean. You can see me in character on the far right … the arrow is pointing down at my head. I think my character stole the show with my clumsy antics. I played up my accident-prone handyman and provided some great comic relief.

My favorite line was a quote from Shakespeare’s play, Romeo & Juliet:

“But soft… what light through yonder window breaks. It is the east, and Juliet is the sun…”

I delievered that line with gusto and a slight speech impediment, making my character endearing and funny at the same time.

This is, for me, one of my most favorite memories ever. Although these friends from junior high have moved on, moved away, and even passed away, they all hold a special place in my heart. We shared the stage, made each other laugh, and we made a memory that will live in my heart and mind forever… and for that, I will be forever grateful to these people, my fellow castmates, my friends.

What is one of your favorite memories from junior high, high school, or elementary school? I’d love for you to share your memories with me, so just leave your comments below.

Have a great day!
