Woman of Style: Julia Roberts

With her trademark smile, Julia Roberts burst onto the scene as Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman, and she hasn’t looked back. The two films I remember seeing her in before her Pretty Woman fame was Satisfaction (1988) and Mystic Pizza (1988). Julia Roberts once said about her success, “I’m just a girl from a little town in Georgia who had this giant, absurd dream.” (Source: IMDb) She played clarinet in the band in school and after graduating from high school, left Georgia for New York to become an actress. Well, this girl from the little town of Symrna, Georgia, has done some pretty amazing things […]

My Top 8 November Movie Releases

November is a great month for movie releases, especially around Thanksgiving. After we stuff ourselves with turkey and all the fixin’s, what best way to spend the afternoon or evening – if you’re not watching football, that is – is to head to your local theater and watch a new movie. This November is going to be pretty awesome for movie-goers. Photo Source: IMDb via Pinterest There is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, The Good Dinosaur, Creed, Love the Coopers, The 33, By the Sea, The Secret in their Eyes, and Victor Frankenstein. There is also The Danish Girl starring […]

All Grown Up

I often watch movies and think of the actors or actresses, “They are the same age as me.” Then I think about other movies I’ve seen them in and realize that the movie I’m thinking of is 20-something years old… And that makes me feel old. I was watching Argo the other night and was really impressed with Ben Affleck. He has matured as an actor and has become a wonderful director/producer. I remember him as the tough Boston kid who played opposite his best friend, Matt Damon, in the award-winning movie Good Will Hunting. It got me to thinking […]

Richard Gere: Actor and Humanitarian

Selected by People magazine as one of the “50 Most Beautiful People” in 1991 and then as the “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1999, Richard Gere still has that “distinguished older gentleman” look that continues to make him, in my opinion, sexy. He may have turned down some major roles in the past (like the lead roles in both Die Hard and Wall Street), but he has starred in some pretty amazing roles.   Gere first made heads turn and women swoon when he played Julian in American Gigolo. He followed that movie with An Officer and a Gentleman, where he played Zack Mayo […]

A Few of My Favorite Actresses…

I sat down at my desk this evening with the plan to compile a list of a few of my favorite actors and actresses; however, as I started jotting down names, the list grew longer by the second! So here’s “Part I” of my list… The Actresses (in no particular order)! 1. My favorite Elizabeth Taylor movie is The Taming of the Shrew, which I saw in junior high school English class after we read the play. Even in black and white, she was gorgeous. 2. Judy Garland’s most famous role is probably that of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. […]
