On Being Thoughtful

Nashville Blogger Bash / www.vanessahwood.com

I try to think of myself as being unstoppable and positive, but I saw this little “warning” message today and thought to myself, “Did I fill my day with any negative, cynical thoughts today?” I really try to stay as positive and happy as I can, and more often than not, I think I succeed in just that… but if I really think about it, I do let some negative, and sometimes cynical, thoughts creep into my mind. And I’ll even admit that sometimes I even speak those thoughts. It reminds me of that saying, “If you don’t have anything […]

Semi-Homemade Apple Tart

home-made apple tart / www.vanessahwood.com

I opened the fridge recently and saw four lonely little apples sitting in the crisper. They had already started to prune up and needed to be rescued before they were tossed. I could have fed them to the horse, but instead I made a semi-homemade apple tart. My Mom's Breast Cancer journey / www.vanessahwood.com

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this year, I have more of a reason to celebrate and honor breast cancer survivors because now I am the daughter of a recent breast cancer survivor. Celebrating 21 Years Together

Celebrating 21 years / www.vanessahwood.com

A few years ago, I wrote a blog post about how my husband and I met, our first date, and how he proposed. And today, we’re celebrating out 21st anniversary. We technically celebrated our anniversary last night at a fancy restaurant – Flemings Steakhouse – in Knoxville. And I partook of a little vodka drink {and anyone who knows me, knows that I don’t drink – except maybe on special occasions}. Last night I told my husband, Mike, that if our anniversary was now old enough to drink, then so was I. 🙂 You can read about our love story […]

Sunday Inspiration: Where’s the Pause Button?

Sunday Inspiration: Where's the Pause Button? / www.vanessahwood.com

Sometimes a Sunday can feel like an albatross around your neck, especially if you aren’t looking forward to your Monday. So, where’s the pause button on Sundays? I know some people who “Netflix and chill” on their Sundays {I’m over here raising my hand as I binge-watch Gossip Girl}, while there are those who choose to work on Sundays. I actually plan to do a lot of things on my Sundays, but sometimes I actually do nothing all day long. I work hard all week long that I honestly don’t feel {too} guilty for lounging around and doing nothing on […]
