My Review of the September T&C

Last month I expressed my excitement about getting several magazines in the mail. Among those magazines was the September issue of Town & County, which was full of really great articles. One article that popped out at me was in the “Manners & Misdemeanors” column, which this month was written by Ali Wentworth, the beautiful wife of George Stephanopoulos. Her article, entitled “Confessions of a Bag Lady”, was a comical look at the idea of goodie bags, which are given away at charity dinners, book parties, film festivals, etc. Ali states, “A quick primer: A goodie bag is the reward one gets […]

The Millennium Trilogy are Good Reads

Earlier this year, I read Stieg Larsson’s “The Millennium Trilogy” – The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets’ Nest. When I say “read”, what I meant was “listened to”, because I checked out the audiobooks from my local library. These audiobooks were read by Simon Vance, who I think was the perfect choice to read these books! For those of you who like to read the book before watching the movie, I strongly suggest you check with your local library to see if they have the audiobooks. You will not […]

Short Story: Late Night Phone Call

A couple of years ago, I wrote several short stories with the intent of submitting them to short story competitions. I did enter one of my short stories, but I didn’t win anything. This was the second short story I wrote, which was based on a writing prompt from Writer’s Digest (I think). Late Night Phone Call is about a woman, Deidra, who receives a late night phone call from a friend, Stephanie, who is in danger and needs Deidra’s help. I hope you enjoy it… and thanks for taking the time to read it! Also, feel free to leave comments, […]

3 a.m.

I wrote a free-form poem (or something) on 7/14/1994 entitled “3 a.m.” It’s nothing fancy, but I found it along with all the short stories and poems I wrote as a teenager, which dates back to 1989. Anyway, I thought I’d share “3 a.m.” with you – my friends. 3 a.m. 3 a.m. is a beautiful time in the morning in which God set aside for me. I may not always be awake to see that time in the morning, but when I’m awake, it is such a wondrous site. One morning at 3 a.m., the moon shone so bright […]

Articles Worth a Second Read

For years I have subscribed to various magazines, relishing the smell of the freshly printed magazines and the smooth finish of the glossy covers. And for years, after I read a magazine from cover-to-cover, I went back through for one final read and ripped out a page (or pages) here and there and cataloged them: “Fashion”, “Beauty – Hair & Skin Care”, “Fitness”, “All Things Chanel”, and “Articles Worth a Second Read.” I recently went through a huge three-inch binder that held all these magazine pages and made two piles – keep and toss. My keep pile ended up quite […]
