Man of Style: Rob Lowe

I first remember watching Rob Lowe as Sodapop Curtis in The Outsiders and as Billy Hicks in St. Elmo’s Fire. He has appeared in some really great movies and TV shows, like West Wing, Brothers & Sisters, and Parks & Recreation. This 80’s heartthrob has a classic style that has been in the business for over 40 years, and he is still just as handsome now as he was back in the early 80s.

This is why he is this month’s “Man of Style.”

I have reacquainted myself with Rob Lowe since rediscovering him as Senator Robert McCallister on Brothers & Sisters. I totally forgot how handsome he is, and realized that as a distinguished man in his early 50s, he still can send hearts fluttering after all these years. He has that smile and those piercing blue eyes… {sigh…}!

He spent the 1980s as a member of the “Brat Pack”, a group of young, powerful and reckless actors and actresses that included Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen and Judd Nelson, among others.

In 1988 Lowe was involved in a scandal centering around a sexually explicit videotape which involved a minor, for which he did 20 hours of community service in Dayton. He subsequently sought help for his problems with drugs and alcohol and has re-emerged in the 1990s as a clean and sober husband and father. (Source: IMDb)

“When I was young and crazy, I was young and crazy. It can be hard enough just to BE in your teens and 20s. Then add fame, money, access, and every single person telling you that you’re the greatest person who ever was, and it can be a recipe for disaster. Some people literally don’t survive it.”

Here are just a few facts about Rob Lowe:

  1. He has been married to Sheryl Berkoff, a makeup artist, since July 1991 and they have two children.
  2. He is deaf in his right ear {kind of like my husband}.
  3. He impersonated Robert Wagner’s voice for the young Number Two in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.
  4. He was considered for the role of Dr. Derek Shepard in Grey’s Anatomy.
