Celebrating National Hat Day Today

I bet you didn’t know that today is National Hat Day! And in honor of this holiday, I’m celebrating by strapping on my motorcycle helmet and taking my Vespa out for a ride later this afternoon, while my husband rides his Harley Davidson.

National Hat Day, which is a holiday you won’t find on any calendar, is always celebrated on January 15th. Did you know that more body heat is lost from your head than any other body part? “National Hat Day is not intended to just keep your noggin warm. Its a chance to make a statement and to display you favorite headgear. We suggest you wear a number of different hats over the course of the day.” {Source: Holiday Insights}

Everyone has worn a hat at one time or another, whether it be a beanie, a baseball cap, a cowboy hat (think Timothy Olyphant in Justified), a fancy fedora (like those worn by screen legends Cary Grant and Frank Sinatra), or a wide-brim hat like the ones women wear to the Kentucky Derby or beach lovers wear on vacation.

Ladies first… Certain styles look better on certain women, but hats not only provide these women shade from the sun, but add style to their outfits.

And then, the {sexy} men in hats! There are millions of men who wear hats and I would say the majority of them are sexy as hell, thanks to the hats they wear.

The women of the Royal Family seem to wear the most stylish hats at every occasion. Like Princess Diana, Kate Middleton looks amazing in any style of hat. And it’s rare for HRH Queen Elizabeth to appear in public without a hat.

Looking to buy a hat? Then check out the styles at Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Zara, ASOS, Macy’s, Target, Lulu’s, or at specialty shops like Gold Coast Couture.

So what kind of hats do you like to wear? Are you celebrating today by wearing a hat?

Yours Truly,
Vanessa

  1. I love hats! When I was a teenager, I used to love to try on the most outrageous hats, look in the mirror, and laugh hysterically! That was great fun. I still like putting on a really great hat. Unfortunately, I am a pinhead so I have less of a selection. Some of the best hats are huge! Oh well! I am never without a hat.

    1. Alice, I used to try hats on all the time too! I wanted a hat like Molly Ringwald wore in “16 Candles”, or was it “Pretty in Pink”. Either way, hats are a wonderful accessory.
