Beautifully Landscaped Inspirations

“Nature is so fantastic. Enjoy it. Let it make you happy.” – Bob Ross, painter

I love the idea of bringing nature into an organized landscape design. I sometimes watch those home improvement shows just to see the landscaping designs they come up with, and then try to figure out how I can recreate that design in front of my own house.

When my husband and I bought his grandmother’s house at the end of last year, we set about making this house our home. Even though we’ve lived in this house for 14 years, we did share this house with his grandmother for over 12 of those years. So now that it is truly (and financially) ours, we are drawing inspiration from other beautifully landscaped homes in order to make our house more curb-friendly.

Living out in the country means that we don’t have sidewalks, but that doesn’t mean that we can make our yard appealing to the eye as people drive by our house. So I took to Pinterest to draw inspiration for landscaping ideas.

Walkways to and from the house can reflect your personal style. Here are some unique walkways, using railroad ties, large stones, and rustic logs.

We have two front porches. In the Spring, I put out a temporary walkway from the drive way along the front of the house to the breezeway porch. Right now it is just a series of brick red square stepping stones. My goal is to put down a permanent walkway this fall when the weather cools down a bit.

Landscaping is expensive, but you may be able to find rocks, railroad timbers, and mulch on sale at your local home improvement store. We purchased paint a month or so ago so we could paint the bottom concrete blocks the same color as our gutters and eaves. Now all I have to do is purchase the landscaping supplies so I can get to work.

Do you have any DIY landscaping tips or tricks? What are some of your favorite landscaping exteriors?

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
