Dinner with Kate and Goldie

“I am compelled to continuously see the bright side. It is in my DNA. My kids look at me and say: ‘Mom, you’re so happy!’ And I do feel happy. I feel joyful inside. I can’t explain it.” – Goldie Hawn

“I have zero problems when people say, “God, you look like your mother”. I go, “Well, great! Thanks!”” – Kate Hudson

There are a lot of mother-daughter actresses out there, but one of the more famous duos — and my favorite — is Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn.

So have I had dinner with Kate Hudson and her mother, Goldie Hawn, like the title of this blog post suggests? Ummm… no, but I would love to have dinner with these two lovely ladies, and my mom (of course)… kind of like a mother-daughter dinner, just the four of us.

Both Kate Hudson and Goldie Hudson have written books. Kate’s is called “Pretty Happy: The Healthy Ways to Love Your Body”, while Goldie’s is called, “A Lotus Grows in the Mud.”

Goldie’s book “delivers a personal look at private and powerful events that carried her through life: her father’s spontaneity; her mother’s courage; and the joy of being a daughter, a sister, a parent, and a lover. She writes about her childhood dreams of becoming a ballerina. She takes us on a tour of her go-go years in 1960s New York City, the phenomenon of TV’s Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, her Oscar-winning debut in Cactus Flower and Hollywood stardom. She writes intimately about the challenges of love, anger and fear, and the importance of compassion and integrity. She speaks openly about her family, her partner Kurt Russell, her children; her faith, her curiosity for that which she doesn’t yet know, and her thirst for knowledge. Most of all, it is a trip back through a life well lived by a woman well loved.” (Source: Amazon)

Kate says of her book, “I didn’t just wake up one day understanding how to take care of myself. I had to learn how to do so over time, and I continue to learn—each and every day. This is a process, and my body is constantly changing. So is yours. And when I learned how to accept that I will always be like this, I relaxed. Our bodies do not stand still for time. When you understand yourself and connect to how you can become body smart, you realize pretty quickly that the perfect, the ideal is not the goal. Instead, the goal is feeling good in your body. That’s what leads to confidence, to feeling and looking fit, and being pretty happy. Doesn’t that sound great? I think so!” (Source: Amazon)

I was a fan of “The Body Book” and “The Longevity Book” by Cameron Diaz, so I was pretty excited about Kate’s book. Cameron’s books are very scientific and educational. Kate’s book offers a relaxed look at how to feel confident, feel fit, and be “pretty happy.” I also believe that both Kate’s and Goldie’s smiles make them even more beautiful. Their smiles light up their faces! As a mother and daughter, they seem to have fun together, no matter where they are.

I’ve read that Kate follows an alkaline diet, while Goldie says she doesn’t really eat a whole lot. So what would I make for dinner? I would make a large salad, with grilled chicken (on the side). I would have a wide array of toppings, from garbanzo beans, black beans, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, croutons, and more. I would also have a selection of dressings, from classic ranch, to a light balsamic vinaigrette.

Dessert? Absolutely! I would make mini chocolate lava cakes with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream!

My mother and I are not celebrities, nor do we hang out with any celebrities. So what would we talk about? Well, I’ll tell you. As a former newspaper reporter, I would ask them questions about themselves.

I’d love to talk to them about their bond as mother and daughter, sharing funny or heart-warming stories about life. I would love to ask them about what they consider to be the driving force in their life. And although I don’t have children myself, I would love to hear stories about Kate’s kids. I would love to ask Goldie about how she explained God to a 4-year-old Kate.

Other questions I would ask them:

  1. If you had to choose just one place to vacation every year for the rest of your life, where would it be?
  2. Would you rather have the ability to be invisible or have X-ray vision?
  3. If you won the lottery, what’s the first thing you would do?
  4. And to follow up: Would you continue to work at your current job? If not, what would you do? If yes, what do you love about your job?
  5. If you had to give up one of your five senses, which one would it be?
  6. What’s your favorite pastime?
  7. What one item would you grab if your house were on fire?
  8. If you could eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

It would be a fun evening, one that I would cherish forever. I would want to video the evening so I could relive it over and over again. Kate and Goldie have such a wonderful bond, similar to the one that I share with my own mother. The wisdom that Goldie and my mother, and even Kate, would impart upon me would be invaluable!

Yours Truly,
Vanessa
